In September 2024, I’m going to Northern Ireland to participate in a Discipleship Training School with YWAM
I want to take time between high school and college to travel, but want my travel to be more than just making memories. I want to help people and strengthen my walk with God. I have friends and family who have participated in DTS. I specifically chose the YWAM An Cuan base because they place a high value on engaging with the local community and they focus on art, music, and working with kids.
The DTS is broken into two parts; a 13 week lecture phase and 9 weeks of outreach. The lecture phase will take place at the YWAM An Cuan base in Rostrevor, Northern Ireland. The outreach phase will take place in one of their focus regions, partnering with local ministries and ongoing initiatives. These include Ireland, Lebanon, the Balkans, Rwanda, Burundi, Israel and Palestine, India, China and South Africa.
I know I'm supposed to say prayer - and I do need prayer - but I also need funds. Heehee! The DTS cost for the six months is £4535 ($5672). Additionally, I will need money to cover travel expenses to and from Northern Ireland and my outreach destination. The estimated total amount is $8000. I have set up a Venmo for donations. Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is an international, interdenominational movement of Christians dedicated to the training and equipping of believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission. In middle school and early high school I had a lot of times of uncertainty and being out of control in really big ways. This led to a struggle with anxiety around change, the unknown, and big steps. I also lost my faith in God.
I’ve done a lot of work to address the anxiety and I have grown closer to God and regained my trust in Him. I feel going to YWAM is the next step to become less anxious with being out of my comfort zone, to gain confidence in doing things on my own, and to continue to grow spiritually and mentally.
